1. Too much text
When it comes to browsing social media, people tend to have a very short attention span! Make sure to keep your posts short and concise, if more information is needed link it to a blog post or landing page.
2. Including multiple links
Every post should have a clear call to action, a clear purpose whether you’re sending visitors to a new menu or to a booking form. Using more than one link however just causes confusion and results in fewer conversions.
3. Directly promoting
Unlike most other forms of marketing, social media is a platform to engage with fans and customers. Unlike magazine, radio and newspaper placement, the purpose of social media marketing is to build a relationship.
4. Not responding to negative comments
Negative comments don’t look great on social media but what looks even worse is when they are deleted or ignored. Always respond to negative comments quickly and take the opportunity to improve the person’s perception of your brand.
5. Begging for likes and shares
Running a competition that has an incentive for fans to like and share works well, but if there’s no incentive don’t beg people to engage, it’s especially embarrassing when they don’t!
