Facebook Ads vs Boosted Posts

Which is which? What’s the difference? Which is the best one to use?

Most marketing champions will have used Boosting and/or Facebook Ads at some point, but not everyone is clear on what the difference is between them and which is the best to use. The answer is not a simple one…

Those who have read our ‘Facebook Boosting Explained’ article will know that boosting consists of applying budget over a specified time frame to an existing post on your Facebook Business page to make it appear in the news feeds of your audience.

Facebook Ads are created separately to your Facebook Business page using Facebook Ads Manager, provide more advanced targeting and customisation options and are created in line with a selected ‘campaign goal’ which could be to increase traffic, to generate leads, to encourage engagement or to redeem an offer amongst other options.

When it comes to the question of which is best, it all depends on what you're trying to promote. Long term, heavily targeted messages that complement a larger campaign are generally more suited to Facebook Ad's, while a last minute post about an upcoming offer is perfect for boosting. If you're not sure which one is best for your requirements, a member of the marketing team will always be happy to advise!
